Notable and Quotable,   Dimitri Simes and Paul Saunders,  The National Interest, October 4, 2013
When power leads men towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations
John F. Kennedy (1917-1963), Address at Amherst College, October 26, 1963
The Quote
“Obama is facing the natural and predictable consequences of his decision to force transformative health care legislation without bipartisan support and using every possible parliamentary maneuver after the Democrats lost their filibuster-proof majority in the Senate following voter rejection of the bill in a special election after the death of Senator Ted Kennedy in the very liberal state of Massachusetts.” Obama is facing the natural and predictable consequences of his decision to force transformative health care legislation without bipartisan support and using every possible parliamentary maneuver after the Democrats lost their filibuster-proof majority in the Senate following voter rejection of the bill in a special election after the death of Senator Ted Kennedy in the very liberal state of Massachusetts.
The Poem
When President Obama unilaterally forced through his health law,
Without consultation or compromise,   it stuck in the GOP’s craw.
It forever poisoned the political well.
It created a veritable political hell.
Only with negotiation will the ice thaw.

Tweet:  The shutdown dates back to ObamaCare’s passage without a single GOP  vote, unprecedented  for a legislative act effecting  all Americans.
